Fanaticism

  • ... will anything but fanaticism make for change? Wisdom and compromise come later.

  • ... there is no fanatic like a religious fanatic.

  • There is a tyrannical element in all fanaticism, an element which makes opposition a torment.

  • Hell hath no fury like a fanatic asked to find a reason for what he's doing. He simply wants to do it, and generally he wants to do it because he observes, often unconsciously, that something new is coming into existence and he doesn't like it, and he's going out with fire and sword to hold it back.

  • Fanaticism and bigotry require any food but common sense, and reason, which would break the charm of those spellbound fanatics.

  • Fanatics are, for one thing, boring and, for another, unreliable. They tend to burn out just when you need them.

    • Nikki Giovanni,
    • in Mari Evans, ed., Black Women Writers (1950-1980) ()
  • Without fanaticism one cannot accomplish anything.
